Philomusica Concert Choir
Presents
A Singer's
Celebration
On Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 8 pm
Philomusica Concert Choir will present “A Singer’s Celebration” at Crossroads
Theatre, Recipient of the 1999 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater. The
theater is located at 7 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.
The program will also be presented on Sunday, May 6, at 4 PM, at Our Lady of Peace
Church, 1740 Route 130 North, North Brunswick, NJ.
This program is a selection of choral masterpieces celebrating a wide range of
styles. It will feature a work by contemporary African-American composer Adolphus
Hailstork “Seven Songs of the Rubaiyat”, text by Omar Khayyam (English
translation by Edward Fitzgerald). Dr. Hailstork‘s style is eclectic, and his music
always “sings” and it owes much to the composers he embraced in his formative years:
Aaron Copeland, Samuel Barber and Igor Stravinski (Biography, in All Music,
online.)
The program also features J.S.Bach’s “Jesu, Meine Freude”, and “Lobet Den
Herrn”.
Additional selections include Johannes Brahms’ “Sechs Lieder und Romanzen”
Opus 93A; John Rutter’s “God be in my Head”; and Randall Thompson’s
“Alleluiah”. Accompaniment will be provided by a positive organ with
organist Shea Velloso, and a Violoncello, played by cellist Katrina
Kormanski.
Advance tickets: $17 adults, $15 students/seniors; $8 children under 13 - $2 more at
the door.
